The focus
of early childhood education is to prepare kids for a lifetime of learning. Its
goal is to create a space where children have a lot of opportunities to- talk
with each other, experience a variety of dynamic yet enjoyable activities, and
learn new things together. It aims to achieve an atmosphere of happy childhood
experiences for children, giving early childhood a whole new way of perspective
and importance.
The child care centre Capalaba upholds the tenets of early childhood education. It intends to be
where the lifelong learning of the children starts. Its goal is to help achieve
for the child an authentic childhood where their curiosity is encouraged in
order that their learning flows organically. It seeks to provide the children-
a) joy filled days in a space with adults who delight in children; b) a
community of friends and caring educators who inspire and capture their
curiosity; c) a warm village that gives a deep sense of belonging; and d) a feeling
of familiarity, their home-away-from-home.
The child care centre Capalaba seeks to develop in the children- zest for life, happy disposition,
resilience, ability to calculate and take risks, desire to know and discover,
and the willingness learn. It employs fun-filled activities as a vehicle in
building the children’s knowledge and abilities. It utilizes play as the
standard mode of engaging the children to participate, cooperate, and learn
with others as well as in inculcating the spirit of dynamism and fairness.
The child care centre Capalaba adheres the National Early Years Learning Framework, a curriculum
that outlines the key learning outcomes for children prior to school. The
framework outlines the key practices that support the best outcomes for young
children, specifically to- a) have a strong sense of identity; b) be connected
with and contribute to the world; c) have a strong sense of wellbeing; d)
become confident and involved learners; e) become effective communicators.
Within the
framework, children will learn science and math concepts as they observe,
investigate, discover, compare, classify, create, predict, explain, verify and
analyze. Children will develop language and literacy skills, not just through
the spoken word, but also through painting, drawing, sculpture, writing, music,
songs, movement, stories, role play, posters, puppets and many open ended
questions. Art and music provide many opportunities for creative expression
with a focus on the process discovery, interpretation, exploration and imagination.
The
curriculum is built around a play-based program, focused on the interests of
young children and also the intentional planning undertaken by educators. Play
provides opportunities for children to learn as they discover, create,
improvise and imagine. Play and learning are entwined in such a way that it is
difficult to separate. When children play with other children they create
social groups, test out ideas, challenge each other’s thinking and build new
understandings.
The staff
of the child care centre are highly qualified. Teachers have earned the
necessary bachelor degree, masteral courses, and trainings. The rest of the
staff all underwent the necessary education and training for the execution of
the functions. Everyone is open to learning and self-improvement all for the
pursuit of much better service to the children. Above all else, everyone is
child-focused and has natural affinity with children. All conduct themselves as
professionals mindful of their roles and duties, and foremost the ethics
expected of those serving for the children.
